Tropical Storm Dexter continues to lose strength as it races northeastward across the North Atlantic. The system is expected to transition into a large extratropical (non-tropical) storm over the next couple of days. While it poses no threat to the United States, rain and gusty winds are likely for parts of northwestern Europe next week.
A tropical wave currently in the eastern Atlantic is being monitored closely by the National Hurricane Center (NHC). While model guidance is not yet in agreement on its path, the general consensus supports a northward curve into the central Atlantic.
A weak low-pressure area may develop later this week near the Southeast U.S. coast, with some model runs indicating possible tropical depression status.
Although not highlighted by the NHC, both the EURO and GFS models suggest a weak low-pressure may develop in the eastern Gulf as early as Friday, moving north from Cuba toward the Florida Panhandle.
Another vigorous tropical wave is set to emerge off the West African coast in the coming days. Long-range models are hinting that this could be the first significant storm to track across the entire Atlantic Basin this season.
