Tropical Storm Imelda – September 28, 2025 • 2:00 PM EDT

Storm Update

Tropical Storm Imelda is moving north from the Bahamas toward Florida’s east coast. Winds are around 40 mph, and pressure is near 1005 mb. The storm is expected to become a hurricane by late Monday or Tuesday as it moves near Florida, then toward the Carolinas.

Hurricane Hunter aircraft and commercial flights confirm the storm is still organizing but slowly getting stronger.

Warnings in Effect

  • Florida’s East Coast: A Tropical Storm Watch is in place from Palm Beach/Martin County line north through Brevard County to Flagler/Volusia.
  • Bahamas: A Tropical Storm Warning continues for central and northwestern islands.

What to Expect

  • Florida (Mon–Tue): Squalls, gusty winds, 2–3 inches of rain, possible coastal flooding.
  • Carolinas (Tue–Wed): 3–6 inches of rain possible if the storm slows near shore.
  • Beaches: Very dangerous conditions — extreme rip currents and high surf through Wednesday.

Emergency Actions

  • North Carolina Governor Josh Stein has requested a federal disaster declaration ahead of Imelda.
  • The White House has not responded yet as of this update.
