A tropical disturbance currently off the Southeast U.S. coast is forecast to drift into the north-central Gulf of Mexicomidweek. While the National Hurricane Center (NHC) now assigns a 10%🟡 chance of tropical cyclone formation, TNW News Operations Hurricane Division is keeping close tabs.⚠️ No major tropical development is expected at this time.
This disturbance may try to spin up into a tropical depression or weak named storm (Dexter) before pushing inland across Texas or Louisiana Friday or Saturday.🌀 Impact Assessment
Regardless of development, this will likely not be a windmaker, but rather a rain-producing system. Residents along the Gulf Coast—from eastern Texas through coastal Louisiana—should anticipate periods of heavy rain, localized flooding, and breezy conditions, especially Friday into Saturday.🌬️ Limiting Factors:
Strong upper-level winds (shear)
Close proximity to land
