Date: July 22, 2025 | š Time: 8:00 PM CDTTROPICAL UPDATE: Northern Gulf Disturbance
A tropical disturbance currently off the Southeast U.S. coast is forecast to drift into the north-central Gulf of Mexicomidweek. While the National Hurricane Center (NHC) now assigns a 10%š” chance of tropical cyclone formation, TNW News Operations Hurricane Division is keeping close tabs.ā ļø No major tropical development is expected at this time.
This disturbance may try to spin up into a tropical depression or weak named storm (Dexter) before pushing inland across Texas or Louisiana Friday or Saturday.š Impact Assessment
Regardless of development, this will likely not be a windmaker, but rather a rain-producing system. Residents along the Gulf Coastāfrom eastern Texas through coastal Louisianaāshould anticipate periods of heavy rain, localized flooding, and breezy conditions, especially Friday into Saturday.š¬ļø Limiting Factors:
Strong upper-level winds (shear)
Close proximity to land
These factors are likely to inhibit sustained development.š£ļø TNW News Hurricane Division Chief Todd Nardone:
āWeāre watching this trough, but right now, itās struggling. If it organizes, rainfall amounts could go up quickly. This is more of a monitor situation, not a panic situation. Letās not overhype it. Weāll keep updating as needed.āš” Track it with Trust
