Current Situation:
As of 8 p.m. Central Bahamas Time (CBT), TNW News Hurricane Division and the National Hurricane Center continue to monitor a tropical wave located roughly 1,000 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. The system remains disorganized but has some associated convection. It is positioned between two clouds of Saharan Dust, which may limit rapid development in the near term.

Development Potential:

  • The latest Saturday PM update from the NHC indicates no major changes.
  • The disturbance holds a low (20%) chance of formation over the next 7 days.
  • Model guidance, including the EURO, shows a small low pressure area forming by early next week in the central Atlantic.
  • If development occurs, it may briefly become a tropical depression or weak tropical storm.

Environmental Outlook:
Beyond the early-week period, atmospheric conditions appear increasingly hostile, and the system is expected to weaken significantly before approaching any landmass. The EURO model suggests the storm will dissipate well before reaching the Lesser Antilles.

Summary from TNW Hurricane Chief Todd Nardone:

“We are not expecting this system to impact land at this time, but as always during hurricane season, we urge residents to stay informed. We are watching this one closely, and our team is prepared to issue the first alert if changes occur.”
