High School Football Forecast — Friday, October 23, 2026

It's Friday night lights, football fans — and Mother Nature is playing along across most of the country tonight.
The big picture: much of the South, East, and Midwest is sitting pretty under clear skies. Temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and 80s from Alabama to Texas to Tennessee mean fans can leave the heavy coat at home in most places — Alabama, Georgia, and Florida top out near 77 to 81 under sunny skies, while Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia enjoy classic October football weather in the 60s.
Now for the spots where weather is in the game plan. Idaho is the roughest ticket in the country — rain and snow with a 94 percent chance of precipitation and a high of only 43, so expect a slick field and cold bleachers. Montana brings rain and snow too, plus gusty 31-mile-per-hour winds that could push kicks around. In New Mexico, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible — coaches should keep the lightning safety plan handy and watch for delays.
The windy Plains deserve a heads-up: Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming all see 20 to 37-mile-per-hour winds tonight, which can absolutely affect the kicking game. Colorado has a slight chance of rain showers near 53, and Minnesota could catch evening showers at 51 percent odds. Oregon turns frosty after sunset with a high of 41 — bring a blanket for the stands.
Wherever you're watching tonight, dress for the weather and stay weather-aware. That's the TNW News high school football forecast — all fifty states, every Friday night.
