Winter Weather Impacts from Appalachians to Northeast

By Weather daily newsletter

According to the TNW Winter Weather Center, the storm currently affecting the Northeast is part of the same system that brought an ice storm to parts of the Midwest over the weekend.

As the storm moved eastward, it delivered snow and icy conditions to the higher elevations of the Appalachians, mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. In Martinsburg, West Virginia, snow blanketed the landscape, creating a picturesque winter scene.

Similar conditions were reported in The Plains, Virginia, where snow coated sidewalks, grassy areas, and some roadways.

This wintry mix transitioned into the Northeast overnight, complicating the Monday morning commute for millions. Several school districts in New York and Connecticut announced closures or delayed start times due to hazardous road conditions.

Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect through late Monday morning or early afternoon for parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Cities such as Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Poughkeepsie, New York, are included in these advisories. Most of Connecticut and all of Rhode Island are also under Winter Weather Advisories.
