Millions of residents across the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast are enduring another round of severe winter weather as a powerful storm system brings blizzard conditions, life-threatening snow squalls, and biting winds.

Snow Squall Warnings remain in effect across multiple states, including North Dakota, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. TNW Weather forecasters caution travelers about dangerous whiteout conditions caused by blowing snow, which have led to numerous travel disruptions and accidents.

Erie, Pennsylvania: Blizzard Warnings Continue

TNW News Breaking News Team and Winter Weather Staff reports live from a snow-covered Erie, Pennsylvania, where heavy snow and strong winds are forecast to intensify throughout Thursday. Following the season’s first significant lake-effect snowstorm, Erie is bracing for another surge of wintry weather.

Storm Impacts Extend to Major Corridors

The storm system has brought frozen precipitation to heavily traveled areas, including the Interstate 95 corridor. Snow and ice have already led to hazardous driving conditions, with emergency crews responding to accidents across the region.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reported rare occurrences of thundersnow, with lightning flashes illuminating snow-laden skies near Pittsburgh late Wednesday night.

Snow Squalls in the Upper Midwest

Life-threatening snow squalls swept through portions of North Dakota and Minnesota on Wednesday, creating blinding whiteout conditions. A dramatic photo from just west of Grand Forks, North Dakota, captured the near-zero visibility, while a time-lapse video from Fargo showcased the speed and intensity of the squall.
