The original county warning remains in effect through 3:15 AM MDT.

# Flash Flood Warning for Kane County, Utah Through 3:15 AM MDT

**Kane County, Utah —** Thunderstorms dropping heavy rain over south central Kane County have put the area under a Flash Flood Warning tonight, with floodwater expected to pour through desert washes and slot canyons into the early hours of Tuesday.

## What is happening:

The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued the warning at 7:23 PM MDT Monday for south central Kane County in southern Utah, in effect until 3:15 AM MDT Tuesday. At the time of issuance, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain over Lick Wash, with the runoff expected to move downstream into Buckskin Gulch. Between three-quarters of an inch and an inch of rain has already fallen, and up to another inch is possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

## Local impacts:

Floodwater will move fast through narrow slot canyons and normally dry washes in the area — including Buckskin Gulch, one of the region's most popular canyon destinations. Roads and low-water crossings can turn dangerous in minutes, even in spots where it is not currently raining.

## What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads or attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle. Most flood deaths happen in cars.

- Stay alert for flooding even where no rain is falling. Distant rainfall can send a wall of water down a dry wash with little warning.

- Anyone hiking or canyoneering in the area should get to high ground now and stay out of slot canyons until the warning ends.
