Dona Ana County, New Mexico —

What is happening: Thunderstorms are moving into the Mesilla Valley south of Rincon and north of Radium Springs, bringing another round of flooding to Highway 185. Even though only a half inch of rain is expected over the next 30 minutes, the ground is already saturated, so water will run off fast and renewed flooding is developing on area arroyos and low-water crossings. The warning covers northwestern Dona Ana County and runs until 9:15 PM MDT tonight. Radar shows the storms producing this flooding, and more could add up as the evening goes on.

Local impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, streets, highways, underpasses, and other low-lying spots with poor drainage. Highway 185 is seeing flooding. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include mainly rural areas of northwestern Dona Ana County, including Rinconcito and Peaceful Valley.

What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive through flooded roads — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Be extra careful at night, when it is harder to see the dangers of flooding.

- Stay out of arroyos and low-water crossings, which can fill with fast water quickly.
