100 Degrees Expected by 1 PM in Chicago – Extreme Heat Alert in Effect

The National Weather Service heat advisory remains in effect through Thursday, but TNW News is issuing a new temperature update:
➡️ At 1:00 PM today, temperatures in Chicago are expected to hit 100°F with a heat index well above 105°F. This spike is being fueled by oppressive humidity and stagnant air.

“When we say first to alert and first to advise — we mean it,” said TNW General Manager Todd Nardone. “We issued our advanced operational heat advisory a full day before the federal alert went out — because your health can’t wait.”

⚠️ TNW’s Operational Extension Warning

If temperatures and heat index values remain extreme into Thursday night, TNW News will extend the operational alert into Friday to protect vulnerable populations across Aurora and the broader Chicagoland area.

Immediate Action for Residents of Aurora & Chicagoland

  1. No Air Conditioning?
    Call 311
and report to the Aurora, Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
City ordinance requires all apartments to offer a designated air-conditioned room during high heat periods.
Violations will be enforced by the Aurora Police Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Management officials.
  2. Prepare for Power Stress
    Charge electric vehicles to 95%
    — even though this isn’t a hurricane, heat-related power failures are possible.
Fuel your generator and keep it 50 feet from your residence — never operate indoors.
  3. Cooling Centers
Cooling shelters are open across Aurora, Kane, DuPage, and Will Counties.
Contact The Aurora, Illinois Emergency Management Agency or check TNWWeather.com for updates and locations.
