Meteorological Hazards & OutlookNational Weather Service
The Chicago NWS reports that while an earlier complex of storms has mostly dissipated, a second disturbance moving across central Iowa is expected to trigger additional development.
National Weather Service
- Localized Flooding: Due to heavy rainfall from recent storm systems, many areas remain highly susceptible to flooding. Any thunderstorms that stall or redevelop over these already saturated regions carry a high risk of localized flash flooding.National Weather Service
- Damaging Winds: The strongest storms today are capable of producing gusty to locally damaging wind gusts between 40–60 mph. While this is a Level 1 of 5 threat for severe weather, the greatest risk is focused south of the I-80 corridor.National Weather Service+ 1
- Overnight Conditions: A backdoor cold front moving off Lake Michigan late this evening is expected to shift winds to the northeast. This shift may lead to the development of patchy, and potentially locally dense, fog across the metro area that could linger into Friday morning.National Weather Service+ 1
