A strengthening snow band is moving across northern Illinois this evening, bringing the first widespread accumulation of the season. The TNW Weather Model projects moderate to locally heavy snowfall rates developing between 7 PM and midnight, especially from Aurora to Chicago and into the far northwest suburbs.
This system, driven by a sharp cold front and Arctic air mass descending from the upper Midwest, is already producing a clear radar signature on the TNWNewsWeatherSensor, with reflectivity values climbing steadily as the storm deepens.
The TNW Weather Model indicates that ground temperatures remain marginal, but heavier snow rates could still create temporary slushy conditions on bridges and untreated roads.
Following the snow, a blast of cold air will move in Saturday morning with lows in the 20s and wind chills in the teens. This pattern marks a major shift into an early winter setup across Illinois and the Midwest.
Tonight’s coverage utilizes TNW’s proprietary WeatherSensor Network, pulling live radar composites from across northern Illinois, enhanced through the TNW Weather Model engine for precision-based geolocation.
The moving radar imagery displays distinct snow bands tracking eastward through Aurora, Naperville, and Chicago, aligning closely with TNW projections.
Motorists should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, especially during the evening commute.
“Even a quick coating of snow can make untreated roads slick,” said TNW General Manager Todd Nardone, adding that the TNW team will continue to monitor radar trends through the night.
