TNW News | Aurora Weather Desk

Aurora is moving from one winter weather system directly into another as multiple rounds of snow continue to impact the region this week. Snow that began yesterday has already created hazardous travel conditions, and additional accumulation is expected later today and again tomorrow.

❄ Yesterday’s Snowfall & Road Conditions

Snow moved into the Aurora area Sunday, producing accumulating snowfall across Kane and DuPage counties. While exact totals varied by location, enough snow fell to create slick and snow-covered roadways, especially on untreated residential streets and secondary roads.

Traffic reports throughout the day indicated:

  • Multiple spin-outs and slow-moving traffic
  • Reduced visibility during periods of heavier snowfall
  • Slush and compacted snow creating icy patches overnight

City plow crews worked through the evening and overnight hours to clear primary routes, but lingering slick spots remained into the early morning commute.

🌨 Today’s Snowfall: Another 2–4 Inches Expected

According to combined forecasting guidance from the TNW WeatherModel and the National Weather Service, another round of snow will arrive in Aurora today between 2 PM and 4 PM.

  • Additional snowfall: 2 to 4 inches
  • Snow intensity: Light to moderate at times
  • Impacts: Worsening road conditions during the evening commute
  • Temperatures: Remaining below freezing, allowing snow to accumulate efficiently

Hazardous driving conditions are expected, especially during the peak travel period late this afternoon and early evening.

Motorists are urged to:

  • Allow extra driving time
  • Reduce speeds
  • Leave plenty of distance between vehicles
  • Avoid sudden braking on snowy or icy roads

🧊 Current Road Conditions (This Afternoon)

As of 2:01 PM, many roadways across Aurora remain wet, slushy, and partially snow-covered, particularly on:

  • Residential neighborhoods
  • Side streets
  • Bridge decks and overpasses

Temperatures below freezing are keeping surfaces slick, with areas of refreeze possible heading into the evening hours.

🔮 Tomorrow’s Snow Forecast (Tuesday, December 2)

Looking ahead to Tuesday, additional winter weather remains likely as colder air remains locked in:

  • Light snow possible through the day
  • Minor additional accumulation
  • Continued icy travel risks during the morning and evening commutes
  • Gusty winds may cause areas of blowing snow and drifting

📡 National Weather Service Advisory

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the ongoing storm systems impacting northern Illinois and has highlighted:

  • Persistent snow chances through mid-week
  • Ongoing travel hazards
  • Dangerous refreezing on untreated surfaces overnight
