Overview: Hurricane Beryl has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane and made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, early Monday morning with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. The region is experiencing life-threatening storm surge, strong winds, and torrential rainfall.

Current Situation:

  • Location: Beryl is battering eastern Texas with hurricane-force winds extending up to 92 miles from the center.
  • Status: Beryl is currently a Category 1 hurricane.
  • Impact: Life-threatening storm surge, strong winds, and flooding rainfall are affecting southeastern Texas.
  • Casualties: The hurricane center has confirmed that 11 people from the island of Jamaica have died due to the storm.

Evacuation Orders:

  • Mandatory Evacuation: Issued at 9 AM yesterday for RVs and campers along the Texas coastline.
  • Voluntary Evacuation: In effect for coastal residents. Local officials and mayors are urging evacuation to ensure safety.
