Potential Tropical Storm Sara Forms in the Caribbean
MIAMI – A developing disturbance over the central Caribbean Sea has a high probability of forming into a tropical depression by the end of the week, with potential to become Tropical Storm Sara, as reported by TNW News and the TNW Hurricane Operations Division.
As the official end of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season nears, this system may bring late-season impacts following closely on the heels of Tropical Storm Rafael, which recently dissipated over the Gulf of Mexico.
The NHC announced early Tuesday that a tropical wave in the central Caribbean is generating an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms, showing signs of organizing into a more defined system.
“Over the past 24 hours, we’ve observed a notable increase in thunderstorm development across the region,” noted TNW Hurricane Division staff. “Yesterday, storm activity was primarily around Puerto Rico and parts of Central America, but recent satellite images show a concentration of thunderstorms forming over the central Caribbean.”
Environmental conditions remain conducive for further strengthening. The NHC anticipates that a tropical depression will likely develop later this week. The system is expected to linger in the western Caribbean through the weekend before potentially moving north by early next week.
Travelers with plans in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Cancun, Cozumel, Cuba, and South Florida are advised by TNW News to stay informed about this evolving situation. As more details emerge, TNW News will provide updates on the system’s potential track and intensity.
