Overview: Tropical Storm Beryl is strengthening near the Texas coast with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. It is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall. Residents are urged to complete their hurricane preparations as soon as possible.
Current Situation:
- Location: Beryl has sustained winds of 65 mph with hurricane-force winds extending up to 92 miles from the center.
- Status: Expected to become a hurricane again before making landfall.
- Impact: Dangerous conditions for travelers, particularly those on the coast for the Fourth of July holiday.
- Casualties: The hurricane center has confirmed that 11 people from the island of Jamaica have died due to the storm.
Evacuation Orders:
- Mandatory Evacuation: Issued at 9 AM this morning for RVs and campers along the Texas coastline.
- Voluntary Evacuation: In effect for coastal residents. Local officials and mayors are urging evacuation to ensure safety.
Wind and Storm Surge:
- Wind Speed: Currently at 65 mph.
- Hurricane Force Winds: Expected to impact the coast with potential for 92 mph winds.
