Issued by: TNW News Operations Hurricane Division Time: 4 PM, Saturday, July 6, 2024

Overview: Tropical Storm Beryl maintains its course toward the Texas coast and is expected to bring significant freshwater flooding and structural damage, particularly around Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande region. Conditions are expected to be dangerous throughout the day. Historical impacts similar to Claudette (2003) and Dolly (2008) are expected, which included downed trees, power outages, and structural damage. These storms also resulted in fatalities due to rough surf.

  • Status: It weakened over the Yucatán Peninsula but is expected to re-strengthen to a Category 1 hurricane by late Sunday night into Monday or early Tuesday morning. The center of Beryl is about to emerge over the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Peak Seas: Currently at 21 ft, expected to build to 29 ft through early Monday.

Impact:

  • Flooding: Anticipated significant freshwater flooding.
  • Structural Damage: Potential for considerable structural damage.
  • Safety Measures: Governor Greg Abbott has declared a disaster order.
