Atlantic Hurricane Season Update:

As we approach the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring two waves with medium potential for tropical development:

  • Gulf of Mexico: A low-pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone. However, showers and thunderstorms will likely continue along the Gulf Coast over the next few days.
  • Caribbean Impact: A wave in the mid-Atlantic is expected to affect the Caribbean islands this week. It has a medium chance of development within the next seven days, with potential impacts including increased rain, gusty winds, and surf.
  • Emerging African Wave: A new wave is expected to emerge off the coast of Africa early this week. It has a medium chance of development over the next seven days, making it one to watch as the hurricane season progresses.

Southwest Heat Alert:

Dangerous heat is building across the Southwest, with Excessive Heat Alerts in effect from Wednesday through Friday for portions of California, Nevada, and Arizona. Temperatures could exceed 115°F in some areas, with many locations expected to be at least 10°F above average. Coastal areas will remain significantly cooler. Ensure you stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat.
