TWAI INSIGHT: DUAL-THREAT ATMOSPHERIC EVENT
TNW Newsroom | Thursday, April 16, 2026 - 12:12 PM CDT
The TNW Sentry Terminal has identified a high-impact weather window beginning mid-afternoon Friday. A potent cold front is projected to intersect with unseasonably warm air (Highs near 82°F), triggering a multi-hazard severe weather event for the Aurora metro and surrounding Northeast Illinois.

NWS Storm Prediction Center has upgraded much of the region to an Enhanced Risk. The primary concern for Aurora is a fast-moving squall line.
With the Fox River already at minor flood stage (current: 10.0 ft), additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches Friday night will trigger rapid rises. The ground is fully saturated; any heavy downpours will likely result in immediate localized flash flooding.
In a rare coincidence, NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G2 (Moderate) Geomagnetic Storm Watch for Friday, April 17.
The Sentry Terminal Radar will remain active on your dashboard throughout the event. Ensure your Weather API Watchdog is engaged; the system will force an immediate refresh if the NWS issues a Tornado or Flash Flood Warning for the KARR sector.
