🚨 BREAKING: New York Subway System Paralyzed by Historic Flash Flooding
Governor Hochul Declares State of Emergency as Transit Crisis Unfold
s

AURORA, IL — In a developing emergency, flash flooding paralyzed much of New York City’s subway system overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Torrential rain fell at rates exceeding two inches per hour in some boroughs, prompting the MTA to shut down multiple lines across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens due to waterlogged tunnels and submerged platforms.

Footage from commuters shows water gushing into the 145th Street and 96th Street stations like a burst dam. Service has been suspended or severely reduced on the 1, 2, 3, A, B, D, F, and L lines as crews work around the clock to pump out floodwater and restore limited access.

Governor Kathy Hochul issued a formal state of emergency for New York late Thursday night, stating:

“This is a life-threatening event. Our emergency services are in full response mode, and we urge all New Yorkers to stay off the roads and avoid mass transit if possible until further notice. We are coordinating with the MTA and the White House to expedite assistance.”

President Trump, addressing the nation from the White House this morning, confirmed that the Department of Transportation and FEMA have been mobilized to assist New York’s emergency management teams. While further White House remarks on unrelated issues were made, TNW News is focusing exclusively on the flooding crisis.

Weather Snapshot:
Radar imagery from Thursday evening showed a rapidly intensifying cell parked over the New York metro area from 5 PM to 9 PM EDT, delivering over 5 inches of rain in isolated zones. The Weather Operations Center at TNW recorded storm echoes with embedded rotation and thunderstorm clusters hovering over the city with little movement.
