AURORA, IL — As the state faces its most significant heat event in two years, authorities have mobilized a coordinated emergency response to protect residents from dangerous temperatures. The National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Cook County and surrounding areas, effective from Monday, June 29, at 12 p.m. through Wednesday, July 1, at 10 p.m..

Governor JB Pritzker has called on all Illinoisans to take these conditions seriously as heat indices are projected to soar between 105°F and 110°F in many locations. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS), led by Director Theodore "Ted" Berger, is actively coordinating with local agencies to ensure safety protocols are followed.
