The storm could bring heavy snowfall, damaging winds, and a sharp drop in temperatures, affecting millions nationwide.According to the TNW Breaking News Team and TNWWeather.com staff, this system is expected to develop over the Rockies early next week before advancing into the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley by Tuesday and Wednesday. It could deliver gusts up to 60 mph, heavy rainfall, and the season’s first snow across its western regions.Snow and High Winds Target the Northern Plains Cold air surging behind the system may trigger freezing temperatures as far south as the Gulf Coast, with frost likely across parts of the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley.“As the cold front advances, colder air will rush in behind the low-pressure system,” explained Todd Nardone, General Manager and Chief of TNW News LLC’s Hurricane Operations Division. “By midweek, much of the central and eastern U.S. will experience a sharp drop in temperatures, well below seasonal averages.”Great Lakes Region Faces Winds and Lake-Effect Snow As the storm intensifies over the Great Lakes by Wednesday and Thursday, strong winds exceeding 50 mph could batter areas from the central Plains to the Ohio Valley. These winds may down trees and power lines, causing potential outages.Cold winds sweeping across the Great Lakes are expected to generate significant lake-effect snow, with regions like western Michigan, the Upper Peninsula, and parts of western New York potentially seeing heavy accumulations. Snowfall could intensify by late week around Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario.Much-Needed Rainfall for the Drought-Stricken Northeast The Northeast, grappling with record drought conditions, may finally see relief as this storm delivers over an inch of rain to some areas. This rainfall could help reduce wildfire risks and replenish dry soils but may also create challenges for holiday travelers.While rain is forecast for coastal regions, parts of the Ohio Valley, northern mid-Atlantic, and interior Northeast could experience snowfall by the weekend.
