HASKELL, OKLA. – Following the devastating tornadoes and severe storms that struck central Oklahoma last weekend, the Salvation Army remains active in providing aid and relief to impacted communities. Kevin Chinault, the Salvation Army’s divisional director of Emergency Disaster Services, has confirmed that the agency is committed to supporting those affected by the storms.
In a tragic event linked to the severe weather, an Oklahoma father and son lost their lives after being swept away by floodwaters while trying to rescue a family member. This incident occurred Friday evening near Haskell, where emergency teams from Wagoner and Muskogee counties quickly mobilized.
Wagoner County Emergency Management reported that a young girl initially became trapped in floodwaters while attempting to clear storm debris. Her father, 54-year-old Lloyd Eubanks, and brother, 27-year-old William Eubanks, went into the fast-moving waters to help her but were overcome by the current. Fortunately, the girl managed to escape and reach safety.
A large-scale search-and-rescue operation, which involved multiple agencies, UTVs, drones, and boats, continued for over two hours, ultimately leading to the recovery of Lloyd and William Eubanks’ bodies.
“Our prayers are with the family of the victims and the first responders who made these discoveries,” stated Wagoner County Emergency Management officials.
General Manager Todd Nardone and TNW News staff are closely following this situation and will provide further updates as they become available.
