AURORA, Ill. — A powerful and fast-moving complex of severe thunderstorms swept across northern Illinois on Tuesday, bringing intense winds, heavy downpours, and active tornado warnings to the Aurora area and surrounding counties.

The National Weather Service (NWS) tracked destructive thunderstorm activity pushing east-southeast through the region. High-impact weather prompted a series of urgent alerts, with wind gusts clocked at an extraordinary 85 mph at the Aurora Airport in Sugar Grove.
