The Chicago National Weather Service reports a transition into a prolonged period of dangerous heat starting Sunday, June 28. The TNW Weather Center has issued an Operational Alert for our community, as heat indices are projected to climb significantly.

• Projected Heat Index: Exceeding 100°F (38°C).
• Peak Period: June 28 through July 2.
• Directive: All personnel and community members must prioritize hydration and shaded operations during this window.

2. TNW Community Safety Focus

With this extreme heat event, we are issuing critical directives to ensure the safety of all, particularly the most vulnerable.

Vehicle Safety: Absolute Non-Negotiables

Vehicles act as greenhouses, reaching lethal temperatures in under 10 minutes—even with windows cracked.

• Zero Tolerance: Infants, individuals with special needs, and the elderly should never be left unattended in a vehicle under any circumstances.
• The "Look" Habit: Place a personal item—like your phone or briefcase—in the backseat as a physical reminder to check the vehicle before you lock it.
• Urgent Action: If you see a person or pet alone in a vehicle, call 911 immediately.

Operational Directive: Curbside Pickups

When utilizing services like local pharmacy or retail curbside pickup, keep your air conditioning running while waiting. Your health is the non-negotiable priority during this heat alert.

Shelter & Resource Sharing

If you have available space or resources, please make room in local shelters. We are calling on the community to assist by donating water, fans, and non-perishables, and by referring individuals to local cooling resources.

Summer Camp Directive

All youth programming directors are instructed to adjust schedules immediately:

• Activity Timing: Move all strenuous activities to early morning or indoors; avoid outdoor exertion between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
• Hydration: Implement a "no-excuse" water break policy every 20 minutes.
