TNW News – Aurora Local Weather UpdatePublished: 12:17 PM CDT – Friday, August 22, 2025UPDATE: Aurora Makes Great Progress in Post-Storm CleanupAurora, Illinois – The City of Aurora continues to recover from last weekend’s historic storms, with significant progress being made across neighborhoods.Streets Division Leads the Charge
The City of Aurora’s Street Maintenance Division has already canvassed nearly all of Ward 5, with crews now shifting focus to debris removal in Wards 4 and 6. Teams have been working mandatory overtime since last Saturday, ensuring that storm debris is cleared as efficiently as possible. To provide some relief, crews will pause operations this Sunday, giving workers a much-needed break after days of around-the-clock service.IPWMAN Joins Recovery Efforts
Beginning Monday, the Illinois Public Works Mutual Aid Network (IPWMAN) will deploy additional support to Aurora. This network, which pools qualified public works employees from neighboring municipalities, will perform five days of cleanup at no cost to the City. This assistance will greatly accelerate the timeline for completing recovery operations.Groot Waste Management Guidelines
Aurora’s waste management partner, Groot, continues to assist residents by leading residential debris collection. Groot will be collecting tree branches and limbs for the next two weeks. Residents are encouraged to follow these guidelines:
Branches and limbs (½”–4” diameter, 2–4 ft long): Must be bundled.
Each bundle under 50 lbs: Bundles can be placed curbside without a waste sticker.
Brush under ½” diameter: Must be placed in kraft paper yard waste bags with a waste sticker attached.Residents who cannot bundle large debris due to equipment limitations are reminded that crews and Groot will continue assisting in collection efforts citywide.A Message from the Mayor
Mayor John Laesch issued the following statement:
“At this time, I would like to formally thank the Street Maintenance Division for all of its hard work over the past week. Your efforts are greatly appreciated throughout the City. We are grateful to have such a dedicated group of individuals serving our residents each and every day.”Stay Informed
