Major Flooding on Wapsipinicon River Near De Witt; Homes Impacted
A Flood Warning has been extended for the Wapsipinicon River near De Witt in eastern Iowa, where major flooding is occurring and many homes along the river are affected.
WHAT: Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. The river stage was above 13 feet Thursday evening, and at these levels water is affecting many residences along the river. This is the most serious river flooding in the TNW coverage area tonight.
WHERE: The Wapsipinicon River near De Witt, affecting Scott and Clinton counties in Iowa.
WHEN: Issued Thursday evening, September 24; in effect until late Wednesday night.
WHO ISSUED IT: NWS Quad Cities (Iowa/Illinois).
WHAT TO DO: If you live along the river in the warned area, prepare to evacuate and do not wait for water to reach your home — move valuables, documents, and pets to higher ground now. Never drive through flooded roads; turn around, don't drown. Do not walk near the riverbank. If officials order an evacuation, leave immediately.
