Flood Warning: Mississippi River at Hannibal to Crest Friday Afternoon
Hannibal area — The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a Flood Warning for the Mississippi River at Hannibal, covering Pike County in Illinois and Marion County in Missouri. Minor flooding is forecast from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning.
What: The river is expected to rise to 17.0 feet early Friday afternoon — right at flood stage — then fall back below flood stage early Saturday morning. The gauge read 16.8 feet at 9:15 p.m. Thursday.
Where: The Mississippi River at Hannibal, affecting Pike County, Illinois and Marion County, Missouri.
When: Issued 9:55 p.m. CDT Thursday, September 24; in effect until 7 a.m. CDT Sunday, September 27.
Local impacts: At 17.0 feet, the John Hay Recreation Area on the east side, inside the Illinois Sny Levee, begins to flood.

What to do: Turn around, don't drown when you encounter flooded roads — most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Steer clear of riverside areas as the water rises, and never drive around barricades.
