WHAT: Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue. The river is expected to remain above flood stage for several days, with low-lying roads and riverside areas at risk.

WHERE: The Des Plaines River near Gurnee, from US-41 downstream to Townline Road in Vernon Hills, affecting Lake County, Illinois. A separate warning with moderate flooding covers the river near Russell, closer to the Wisconsin state line.

WHEN: Issued Thursday evening, September 24; in effect until late Sunday night.

WHAT TO DO: A Flood Warning means water above flood stage is imminent or already occurring. People along rivers and streams in the warned area should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Never walk or drive through floodwater — just six inches of moving water can knock a person down. Move vehicles and belongings away from low-lying riverside spots.
