Aurora Storm Cleanup Continues

By TNW News Breaking News Team | Wednesday, August 27, 2025

The City of Aurora’s Street Maintenance Division continues to work diligently to clean up damage from the severe storms that struck the area on August 16.

Curbside Debris Removal

City officials are reminding residents with downed trees or large debris on private property to move limbs and trunks to the curb as soon as possible. This will allow Groot, the City’s waste management partner, to collect the debris efficiently.

Clean-up operations are expected to last several weeks, with the Streets Team aiming to complete its first phase of debris removal before Labor Day weekend.

Bundling Requirements

To help speed the process, residents are asked to:

Group smaller pieces of debris into bundles 50 pounds or less.

Bundle branches and limbs ½ inch to 4 inches in diameter and 2 to 4 feet in length. These bundles can be placed at the curb without a waste sticker.

Place brush smaller than ½ inch in diameter in kraft paper yard waste bags with a waste sticker attached.

This ensures Groot can pick up debris quickly on regular garbage days.

Crews Returning to Larger Jobs

In cases where debris is too large or volumes are high, city crews will record the address and return later with the necessary equipment. If debris remains after four weeks, residents are encouraged to submit a service request through the myAurora 311 app, web portal, or by calling 311.

Community Resilience

Mayor John Laesch praised Aurora residents for coming together during the cleanup process:

“I am extremely impressed with how many neighbors here in Aurora have helped each other out. This difficult situation has truly shown how much stronger we are when we work together. As Mayor, I will continue to work with City staff and residents to make sure these clean-up efforts are both smooth and timely.”

Residents can download the myAurora 311 app or file requests online at www.aurora.il.us/311.
