Typhoon Warning for Guam and Rota Through 11:15 AM Saturday

**UPDATE — Friday, October 16, 2026, 12:03 PM CT:** The Weather Service's 3:03 AM local advisory strengthened Champi to 70-mile-an-hour winds, now about 420 miles east-southeast of Guam and moving west at 15 miles an hour. The Typhoon Warning now runs through 11:15 AM Saturday.

Guam and Rota —

**What is happening:** Tropical Storm Champi is bearing down on the Marianas and gaining strength as it comes. The National Weather Service has the Typhoon Warning for Guam and Rota in effect through 11:15 AM Saturday. At 1 o'clock this morning local time, Champi was packing 70-mile-an-hour winds about 420 miles east-southeast of Guam, moving west at 15 miles an hour. The storm keeps slowing as it closes in, which can stretch out the rough weather. The surrounding coastal waters are under a Typhoon Warning as well.

**Local impacts:** Typhoon-force winds are likely on Guam and Rota, strong enough to tear at roofs, knock down power lines, and throw loose objects around. Flooding is a real concern too — a Flood Watch covers all of Guam and the Northern Marianas, so heavy rain can turn roads and low spots dangerous in a hurry.

**What to do:**

- Bring everything loose inside now — outdoor furniture, trash cans, anything wind can grab.

- Figure out your shelter plan. A sturdy concrete building is your safest bet.

- Lay in a few days' worth of food and water before the worst of it arrives.

- Protect your crops and anything you can't afford to lose.

- Stay tuned — if a Flood Warning is issued for your area, take it seriously and never drive through flooded roads.
