# Tropical Storm Warning for Hawaii's Big Island Through 7:00 AM HST

**Hilo, Hawaii —** A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the entire Big Island of Hawaii through 7:00 AM HST Saturday morning, as a tropical system brings gusty, damaging wind to the island overnight.

## What is happening:

The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued the warning at 10:56 PM HST Friday. It covers every district of the Big Island — Kona, Kohala, and the island's north, south, east, interior, southeast, and summit zones. Communities named in the warning include Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, and Milolii. Tropical-storm conditions are expected to develop during the overnight hours and continue into early Saturday morning.

## Local impacts:

Winds are running 10 to 15 mph with gusts near 20 mph right now, but forecasters warn conditions could intensify quickly — tropical-storm-force wind of 58 to 73 mph is possible. Significant damage is possible, including torn roofing and siding, damaged porches, awnings, and carports, downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages.
