Tornado Warning for Wake and Franklin Counties Through 2:00 PM

UPDATE — Sunday, October 11, 1:30 PM ET: The tornado-warned storm is now near Wake Forest, about 13 miles northeast of Raleigh, moving northeast at 25 mph. The warning for northeastern Wake and west-central Franklin counties continues through 2:00 PM ET. Rolesville and Youngsville are in the path — take shelter now.
Raleigh, NC — A tornado warning is in effect right now for northeastern Wake County and southwestern Franklin County in central North Carolina, lasting until 2:00 PM EDT.
**What is happening:** At 1:09 PM EDT, the National Weather Service in Raleigh picked up a severe thunderstorm showing rotation on radar near Raleigh, moving northeast at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing a tornado. It should be near Raleigh and Wake Forest around 1:15 PM, with Pilot, Rolesville, Knightdale, Youngsville and Falls Lake also in the path. Interstate 40 between mile markers 300 and 302 is in the storm's track.
**Local impacts:** The Weather Service warns that flying debris will be dangerous to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes can be damaged or destroyed, with damage also expected to roofs, windows and vehicles. Tree damage is likely.
**What to do:**
- Take cover now. Get to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
- Stay away from windows.
- If you are outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
- Report severe weather to the National Weather Service or local law enforcement when it is safe.
