Tornado Warning for Southwestern Duplin County Through 2:15 PM

UPDATE — Sunday, October 11, 1:43 PM ET: The storm is over Wallace, moving northeast at 30 mph. The warning for southwestern Duplin County continues through 2:15 PM ET. Chinquapin, Teachey and Greenevers are in the path — take shelter now.
**Wallace, N.C. —** A tornado warning is in effect for southwestern Duplin County in eastern North Carolina until 2:15 PM ET Sunday. The National Weather Service in Newport issued the warning after radar showed rotation inside a thunderstorm over Harrells.
**What is happening:** At 1:24 PM, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Harrells, about 10 miles west of Wallace, moving northeast at 30 miles per hour. Forecasters say this is a dangerous storm — radar is showing the kind of rotation that can produce a tornado.
**Local impacts:** Flying debris will be dangerous to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes can be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur, and tree damage is likely.
**What to do:**
- Take cover now — move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.
- If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
- The storm will be near Wallace around 1:35 PM and Rose Hill around 1:40 PM.
- Magnolia, Greenevers, and Teachey are also in the path.
