Tornado Warning for Southeastern NC and Northeastern SC Through 11:30 AM

**UPDATE — Sunday, October 11, 12:26 PM ET:** The tornado-warned storm is now over Whiteville, moving northeast at 30 mph. The warning for Columbus County, N.C. continues through 12:45 PM ET. Whiteville, Lake Waccamaw, and Hallsboro are in the path — get to your safe place now.
UPDATE — Sunday, Oct 11, 10:54 AM CT: NWS Wilmington reports the rotating storm is now near Goretown, about 12 miles northwest of Little River, moving northeast at 35 mph. The Tornado Warning for Columbus County, N.C. and Horry County, S.C. continues through 12:15 PM EDT.
UPDATE — Sunday, Oct 11, 10:28 AM CT: The National Weather Service has updated this warning — the storm is now located near Green Sea, about 13 miles southeast of Mullins, moving northeast at 30 mph. The warning for Columbus County, North Carolina and Horry County, South Carolina continues through 11:45 AM Eastern. Tabor City and Green Sea remain in the path.
Mullins, S.C. — The National Weather Service office in Wilmington has issued a Tornado Warning for parts of southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina, in effect through 11:30 AM EDT.
What is happening:
A severe thunderstorm showing rotation on radar was spotted over Mullins at 11:00 AM EDT. Forecasters say the storm is capable of producing a tornado as it moves east at 30 miles per hour. The warning covers west-central Columbus County and southern Robeson County in North Carolina, along with southeastern Dillon County, northwestern Horry County, and northeastern Marion County in South Carolina. Towns in the path include Mullins, Fair Bluff, Lake View, Nichols, and Cerro Gordo.
Local impacts:
Debris picked up by the wind will be dangerous to anyone caught outside a sturdy shelter. Mobile homes could be badly damaged or destroyed. Expect damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles, along with widespread tree damage.
What to do:
- Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built structure, away from windows.
- If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, get to the nearest substantial shelter right away and shield yourself from flying debris.
