Tornado Warning for Franklin, Nash and Wake Counties Through 2:15 PM

UPDATE — Sunday, October 11, 1:46 PM ET: NWS Raleigh now reports a radar-confirmed tornado over Louisburg, moving northeast at 30 mph. The warning has been extended into Warren County and now runs through 2:30 PM ET. Afton, Ingleside, Centerville and Arcola are in the path — take shelter now.


**Louisburg, N.C. —** A tornado warning is in effect for southeastern Franklin County, southwestern Nash County and northeastern Wake County in central North Carolina until 2:15 PM ET Sunday. The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued the warning after radar picked up rotation inside a thunderstorm over Zebulon.


**What is happening:** At 1:40 PM, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Zebulon — about 18 miles east of Raleigh — moving northeast at 35 miles per hour. By 1:46 PM, radar confirmed a tornado over Louisburg moving northeast at 30 miles per hour, and forecasters extended the warning into Warren County through 2:30 PM ET.


**Local impacts:** Flying debris will be dangerous to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur, and tree damage is likely. Hail up to three-quarters of an inch may fall with this storm.


**What to do:**

- Take cover now — move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.

- If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

- The tornado was over Louisburg around 1:50 PM. Afton, Ingleside, Centerville and Arcola are next in line.

- Do not shelter under highway overpasses.
