Tornado Warning for Duplin, Jones, Lenoir and Onslow Counties Through 2:45 PM

UPDATE — Sunday, October 11, 1:18 PM CT: NWS Newport/Morehead City reports a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado over Beulaville — about 18 miles northwest of Half Moon — moving northeast at 30 mph. This is a particularly dangerous situation. Take cover now.
**Beulaville, N.C. —** A confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado is on the ground in eastern North Carolina right now, and a Tornado Warning is in effect for Duplin, Jones, Lenoir and Onslow counties until 2:45 PM EDT Sunday.
**What is happening:** At 2:09 PM EDT, the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City confirmed the tornado near Beulaville — about 14 miles northeast of Wallace — moving northeast at 30 mph. The weather service calls this a Particularly Dangerous Situation, which it reserves for the most life-threatening tornado setups. The twister was expected near Beulaville and Potters Hill around 2:15 PM and near Pleasant Hill around 2:35 PM.
**Local impacts:** Flying debris can be deadly to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be destroyed. Homes, businesses and vehicles are likely to take considerable damage, and complete destruction is possible in the tornado's path.
**What to do:**
- Take cover NOW — do not wait to see it.
- Get to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
- Stay away from windows.
- If you are outside, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and shield yourself from flying debris.
