Tornado Warning for Cumberland and Hoke Counties Through 12:15 PM

**UPDATE — Sunday, October 11, 12:26 PM ET:** The tornado-warned storm is now near Godwin, about 8 miles south of Lillington, moving northeast at 35 mph. The warning covering Cumberland and Harnett counties continues through 12:45 PM ET. Lillington is in the storm's path around 12:30 PM — take shelter now.


# Tornado Warning for Cumberland and Hoke Counties Through 12:15 PM






**UPDATE — Sunday, Oct 11, 10:49 AM CT:** NWS Raleigh reports the rotating storm is now near Fort Bragg, moving northeast at 25 mph. Fayetteville, Fort Bragg, and Pope Army Airfield are in its immediate path around 11:55 AM EDT, with Spring Lake, Bonnie Doone, and Hope Mills also impacted. The Tornado Warning continues through 12:15 PM EDT.






**Raeford, North Carolina —** A severe thunderstorm showing rotation on radar is moving through central North Carolina this morning, and the National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Tornado Warning for northwestern Cumberland County and southeastern Hoke County, in effect through 12:15 PM EDT.






**What is happening:** At 11:36 AM EDT, radar picked up strong rotation in a thunderstorm near Raeford, moving northeast at 40 miles per hour. Forecasters say the storm is capable of producing a tornado. The warned storm was expected near Fayetteville and Fort Bragg around 11:40 AM EDT and near Pope Army Airfield around 11:45 AM EDT. Other communities in the path include Spring Lake, Silver City, and Rockfish.






**Local impacts:** This is a radar-indicated tornado — forecasters see strong rotation on radar. Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles is expected, and tree damage is likely.






**What to do:**


- Take cover now — move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.


- Stay away from windows.


- If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
