Tornado Warning for Craven, Jones, and Lenoir Counties Through 3:15 PM

**Kinston, N.C. —** A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is moving through eastern North Carolina right now, and a Tornado Warning is in effect for Craven, Jones, and Lenoir counties until 3:15 PM EDT Sunday.
**What is happening:** At 2:49 PM EDT, the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City tracked the storm near Pleasant Hill — about 12 miles south of Kinston — moving northeast at 30 mph. Doppler radar shows rotation inside the storm, which is the signature meteorologists watch for tornado development. The storm is expected near Wyse Fork around 2:55 PM EDT and near Fort Barnwell around 3:15 PM EDT. Dover and Cove City are also in the storm's path.
**Local impacts:** Flying debris will be dangerous to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles is expected, and tree damage is likely in the tornado's path.
**What to do:**
- Take cover NOW — do not wait to see the tornado.
- Get to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
- Stay away from windows.
- If you are outside, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and shield yourself from flying debris.
