Tornado Warning for Coconino County Through 5:45 AM MST

Flagstaff, Arizona —
**What is happening:** Two thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes are sweeping across Coconino County this morning, and the National Weather Service in Flagstaff has a Tornado Warning in effect for the county until 5:45 AM MST. One tornadic storm was located 8 miles northeast of Perkinsville, about 20 miles north of Cottonwood, racing northeast at 40 miles per hour toward J.D. Dam Lake. A second storm sat near Maine, 14 miles west of Flagstaff, also moving northeast at 40 miles per hour — putting Fort Valley, Parks, Bellemont, and Garland Prairie directly in its path. Both storms are showing rotation on radar.
**Local impacts:** Quarter-size hail is falling with both storms, and winds are strong enough to turn loose objects into dangerous projectiles. The weather service warns that flying debris will be dangerous to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed, and roofs, windows, and vehicles are all at risk. Tree damage is likely across the warned area.
**What to do:**
- Get inside a sturdy building now — put as many walls between you and the outside as possible.
- Head to the lowest floor and an interior room or closet, away from windows.
- If you live in a mobile home, leave it immediately for a stronger shelter.
- If you are driving, do not try to outrun the storm — pull over somewhere safe and get inside a building.
