# Tornado Warning for Coconino County Through 11:45 AM CT
Flagstaff, Arizona — A tornado warning is in effect for Coconino County in north-central Arizona until 11:45 AM CT this morning, and it covers much of the Flagstaff metro area.
## What is happening:
At about 11:09 AM CT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted on radar 5 miles northwest of Forest Highlands — roughly 9 miles southwest of Flagstaff — moving north at 45 mph. The National Weather Service in Flagstaff issued the warning based on radar-indicated rotation. It runs until 11:45 AM CT.
Areas in the path include east and downtown Flagstaff, Fort Valley, Forest Highlands, Bellemont, Camp Navajo, Northern Arizona University, Sunnyside, Arizona Snowbowl and nearby parks and campgrounds. Portions of Interstate 40, Interstate 17, Route 66, State Route 89A and Highway 180 near Flagstaff are also in the warned area.
## Local impacts:
The storm can produce a tornado along with quarter-size hail. Flying debris would be dangerous for anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed, with roof, window and vehicle damage possible where the strongest winds hit. Tree damage is likely.
## What to do:
- Get to an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built building, away from windows.
- If you are outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, move to the closest sturdy shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
- Do not try to outrun the storm in a car. Take shelter and stay there until the warning expires.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
