Comanche and Stephens Counties, OK — Two strong thunderstorms are rolling through southwestern Oklahoma Saturday evening, and the National Weather Service has both under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings through 7:45 PM CDT.

What is happening: The National Weather Service in Norman issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwestern Comanche County at 7:09 PM CDT. At 7:08, a severe thunderstorm was sitting about 5 miles southwest of Meers, moving east at 25 mph — putting Medicine Park, Lake Lawtonka, Meers, Fort Sill, and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in its path.

A second warning, for northwestern Stephens County, went out at 7:14 PM CDT. That storm was located about 5 miles northwest of Duncan, moving east at 20 mph, with Duncan and Central High in its line. Both warnings run through 7:45 PM CDT.

Local impacts: Both storms are capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Radar shows the storms are already at severe strength. Hail this size can dent vehicles and break siding and windows. Gusts near 60 mph can tear off roof shingles and bring down tree limbs and power lines.

What to do:

- Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building — stay away from windows.

- If you are outside, in a vehicle, or under a canopy, get inside a substantial structure now.

- Secure loose outdoor items and bring pets indoors.

- Do not try to drive through the storm core — heavy rain will cut visibility fast.

- Keep your phone charged and stay off corded phones during the worst of it.
