Kent, Texas — The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has put southwestern Reeves County, north central Jeff Davis County, and southeastern Culberson County under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 5:30 PM CDT.

**What is happening:** Radar picked up a dangerous thunderstorm 13 miles southwest of Kent around 4:47 PM. It is moving to the northeast at about 25 miles per hour, aimed at Kent and the surrounding open country of West Texas. The warning covers southwestern Reeves, north central Jeff Davis, and southeastern Culberson counties and runs through 5:30 this evening.

**Local impacts:** This storm can produce wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail the size of quarters. That combination is enough to dent and crack vehicles, tear at roofs and siding, and knock down tree limbs. Torrential rain is falling with the storm and can quickly turn roadways into flash-flood traps. Drivers should expect rough conditions along Interstate 10 between mile markers 172 and 191 and on Interstate 20 near mile marker 0.

**What to do:**

- Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

- Stay away from windows until the storm passes.

- Never drive through flooded roadways — water can be deeper than it looks.
