Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Vance and Warren Counties Through 3:00 PM

UPDATE — Sunday, October 11, 1:34 PM CT: NWS Raleigh reports the severe thunderstorm is over Warrenton, moving northeast at 25 mph with 60 mph wind gusts. The warning for Warren County runs through 3:00 PM ET. Norlina, Macon, Lake Gaston, Wise and the Southpointe and Morningstar marinas are in the path, along with I-85 between mile markers 228 and 233.
Warren County, North Carolina — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for northern Vance County and Warren County until 3:00 PM EDT Sunday.
What is happening: The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued the warning at 2:19 PM EDT. Radar showed a strong thunderstorm sitting near Warrenton, moving northeast at 35 mph. Places in the path include Warrenton, Norlina, Middleburg, and Macon.
Local impacts: Wind gusts to 60 mph are expected. Gusts that strong can tear shingles and siding off roofs and snap large tree limbs onto power lines and roads.
What to do:
- Get inside a sturdy building now and stay away from windows.
- Tornadoes can spin up quickly out of severe thunderstorms, so stay alert for a possible tornado.
- If you spot a tornado, go at once into a basement or a small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy structure.
- Move outdoor items that can blow around.
