Raleigh, NC — A severe thunderstorm warning covers a wide swath of central North Carolina — including the Raleigh-Durham Triangle — until 1:45 PM EDT. Vance, western Warren, Granville, Wake, north-central Johnston, southeastern Durham and Franklin counties are all included.

**What is happening:** At 12:56 PM EDT, the National Weather Service in Raleigh tracked a line of severe thunderstorms stretching from near Oxford to near Garner, moving northeast at 30 mph. Radar indicates these storms are producing 60 mph wind gusts. Towns in the line include Raleigh, Cary, Henderson, Oxford, Creedmoor, Louisburg, Warrenton, Wake Forest, Garner and Fuquay-Varina. Interstate 85 is in the storm's path.

**Local impacts:** Expect damage to roofs, siding and trees from the strong straight-line winds. These storms can also spin up tornadoes quickly, so the warning is treated with extra caution.

**What to do:**

- Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building until the storms pass.

- If you spot a tornado, go at once to a basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

- Give yourself plenty of time — these storms cover the whole metro at highway speeds.
