Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southwestern Clark County Through 3:45 PM CT
Las Vegas, Nevada — A severe thunderstorm is moving through southwestern Clark County this afternoon, bringing large hail to the Las Vegas area.
What is happening:
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southwestern Clark County in southern Nevada. The warning runs until 1:45 p.m. local time in Las Vegas, which is 3:45 p.m. Central. At about 1:04 p.m. local time, radar tracked a severe thunderstorm over Fremont Street, moving east at about 10 mph. The storm is expected to affect Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, East Las Vegas, Nellis Air Force Base, Paradise, the Strip, Frenchman Mountain, the Stratosphere Tower area, and the UNLV area.
Local impacts:
The main threat from this storm is quarter-size hail, about an inch across. Hail that size can damage vehicles. Torrential rainfall is also falling with this storm, and that heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage spots.
What to do:
- Move inside a sturdy building and stay away from windows until the storm passes.
- Do not drive through flooded roadways. Turn around and find another route.
- Keep clear of the storm's path and stay tuned for further updates from the National Weather Service.
