The warning remains in effect until 2:15 PM PDT (4:15 PM CDT).

San Bernardino County, California — The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of San Bernardino County in southern California, in effect until 2:15 PM PDT (4:15 PM CDT).

What is happening: At 1:29 PM PDT, radar picked up a severe thunderstorm 6 miles north of Amboy — about 22 miles southwest of Mitchell Caverns — moving northeast at 20 miles per hour. The storm is tracking across the desert along Interstate 40, with the town of Amboy and I-40 between mile markers 68 and 98 in its path.

Local impacts: This storm is packing 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts and hail the size of quarters — about an inch across. The Weather Service says hail damage to vehicles is likely, and the winds can tear at roofs, siding, and trees.

What to do:

- Get inside a sturdy, well-built structure now and stay there until the warning ends.

- Stay away from windows — flying debris and shattering glass are the big dangers.

- If you are driving on I-40 near Amboy, pull off the road somewhere safe and wait it out.
