Montague County, Texas — A severe thunderstorm is rolling through southwestern Montague County tonight, and the National Weather Service in Fort Worth says it is strong enough to do real damage.

What is happening: The storm was sitting just west of Bowie, near Bellevue, shortly before 10 PM and is drifting east at about 20 miles per hour. The warning runs through 10:30 PM. Forecasters expect the worst of it to reach Bowie around 10:15 PM.

Local impacts: Radar is showing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail up to quarter size. Winds that strong can tear shingles, break siding, and snap tree limbs, and hail that size can dent cars and crack windshields.

What to do: Get inside a sturdy building now — do not wait for the wind to pick up. Stay away from windows and doors on the windward side of the house. Move cars into a garage or under cover if you can do it safely before the storm arrives. If you are driving, pull off the road well away from trees and power lines and wait it out.
