Mohave County, AZ — The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southwestern Mohave County in northwestern Arizona and San Bernardino County in southern California until 6:15 this evening.

**What is happening:** In a 5:40 p.m. update, the National Weather Service placed the severe thunderstorm 8 miles west of Desert Hills — about 10 miles northeast of Highway 95 at mile marker 29 — moving east at about 20 miles an hour. Communities in its path include Lake Havasu City, Topock, and Desert Hills. Drivers should watch for problems on Interstate 40 — between mile markers 0 and 7 in Arizona and between mile markers 149 and 155 in California.

**Local impacts:** The storm is packing 60 mile-an-hour wind gusts — strong enough to damage roofs and siding and bring down tree limbs.

**What to do:**

- Get inside a well-built structure now and stay away from windows.

- If the winds pick up, move to an interior room on the lowest floor.

- Damaging wind can arrive before any rain or thunder — do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking shelter.

- Tornadoes can spin up quickly from severe thunderstorms, so treat this storm seriously.
