# Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Luna County Through 7:00 PM MDT

Luna County, NM — A severe thunderstorm was bearing down on east central Luna County Monday evening, and the National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the area through 7:00 PM MDT.

**What is happening:** At 6:16 PM MDT, radar picked up a severe thunderstorm near Deming, moving east at 30 miles per hour. The warning covers east central Luna County in southwestern New Mexico and runs until 7:00 PM MDT, which is 8:00 PM Central time.

**Local impacts:** The main threats are golf ball-size hail and wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour. Hail that size can dent cars, knock out windows and injure anyone caught outside. Winds that strong can snap branches, knock down power lines and toss loose outdoor items.

**What to do:**

- Get inside a sturdy building right now — a house, a store, a school — and stay away from windows.

- Bring pets and children indoors and move patio furniture, grills and trash cans inside or tie them down.

- If you are driving near Deming, pull well off the road, away from trees and power lines, and wait out the worst of it.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
